Don't Be So Naive...

Don't be so naive...

Those words have been said many times. You may have heard them said to you. I certainly have.

Often they are used to patronizingly alert the Christian to the error of their ways. You believe in faith? You believe in prayer? You believe in God? Don't be so naive...

Today it is used in an entirely different context. The apostle Paul is saying it to the Christians he is writing about.

But he is warning them against buying into one of the strongest beliefs of our modern society. The trust in your own self. The belief in your own self. The confidence in your own self.

"Don't be so naive and self-confident. You're not exempt. You could fall flat on your face as easily as anyone else. Forget about self-confidence; it's useless. Cultivate God-confidence.
13No test or temptation that comes your way is beyond the course of what others have had to face. All you need to remember is that God will never let you down; he'll never let you be pushed past your limit; he'll always be there to help you come through it.
14So, my very dear friends, when you see people reducing God to something they can use or control, get out of their company as fast as you can."

Trust God. He is eternal and never changes.

Do not trust in your own self. You are up and down and all around.

There's a message that is counter culture!!
